I & T Electrical & Engineering Ltd
Consumer unit upgrades in Liverpool & Sefton.
Replace an ageing fuse board with a consumer unit suited to your home and electrical installation. We assess the existing circuits, agree the work and complete the installation, testing and certification.
Start with an assessment
Is it time to replace your fuse board?
A consumer unit upgrade may be appropriate during a refurbishment, when adding circuits or where inspection identifies a need for improved protection. The age or appearance of a board alone does not establish the condition of the whole installation.
We look at the existing installation before confirming what is needed. A replacement board does not repair defects in existing wiring, so any additional work is identified and agreed as part of the quotation.
Domestic price guide
What does a consumer unit upgrade cost?
£570–£860 including VAT
Indicative price for a typical replacement, testing and certification. The number of circuits, existing condition, protective devices and access affect the final cost. Additional remedials, changes to wiring and other work are quoted separately.
Your written quotation confirms the board specification, included work and exclusions before installation starts.
A planned replacement
From survey to certification.
1. Check the existing installation
Send a clear photo of the existing board and tell us about tripping, planned alterations or any previous report. We confirm whether a site visit or further inspection is needed before quoting.
2. Agree the work and shutdown
We discuss the new board, circuit protection, any associated work and access. Power will need to be switched off during the replacement, so we agree suitable arrangements for your household.
3. Install, test and hand over
We replace the consumer unit, carry out the appropriate inspection and testing, label the circuits and explain the completed work. You receive the relevant electrical certification and any applicable notification documentation.

Upgrading a board or planning a rewire?
A board replacement and a rewire are different jobs. If existing cables are suitable, a full rewire may not be necessary. If the condition is unclear, inspection and testing can help establish the appropriate scope.
For extensions, kitchens or larger refurbishments, tell us about the complete project so the board and circuit arrangements can be considered together.
Your questions, answered
Plan your work with confidence.
Will I need to rewire the whole house?
Not automatically. That depends on the condition and suitability of the existing wiring. We discuss the findings and agree any additional work before proceeding.
How long will the electricity be off?
The duration depends on the installation and agreed scope. We advise before booking and discuss equipment or household needs that require particular planning.
Are repairs included in the guide price?
The guide covers a typical consumer unit replacement, testing and certification. Existing circuit defects and additional remedials are quoted separately.
What should I send for a quotation?
Send your postcode, a clear photo of the consumer unit, any previous inspection report and details of planned electrical additions. Keep covers in place when taking photos.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. We provide the appropriate electrical certification for the work, together with applicable notification documentation.
